OrganicTrace is a Django 5 and Django REST Framework application with a plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript front end, running on MySQL 8 and packaged with Docker Compose. It implements its own blockchain with custodial Ed25519 wallets, Merkle trees, proof-of-work and full chain verification, then uses it to trace batches from farm to retailer with dual-signed custody, ingredient lineage, recall propagation, cold-chain sensor anchoring, a food-miles and CO2 calculator, QR consumer pages and an admin Tamper Lab. Students learn how blockchain mechanics work under the hood, REST API design, role-based supply-chain workflows, applied cryptography and containerised deployment.
